Fiber Arts Miami Association (FAMA) has organized a timely exhibition of thread-based work to celebrate the achievements of those trailblazing courageous women, and to recognize the need to foment the movement anew. 40 Women Pulling at the Threads of Social Discourse: FAMA Flags + Guests presents the work of artists from at least eleven nationalities, a group aptly representative of the diversity of the South Florida community. A range from the purely aesthetic to the conceptual and narrative is evident in the collection. While all thread-based, the breath of materials, processes and techniques together with the many cultural perspectives combine to suggest multiple and layered meanings, different voices – women’s voices - even within the thematic frame of raising awareness about the importance of voting rights.
