SARITA MISHAAN
Sarita Mishaan was born in Barranquilla, Colombia, on January 29, 1958, and currently lives and works in Miami, Florida, where she maintains her home studio. She has also lived in many countries, gaining the opportunity to learn from and experience a wide range of cultures.
An artist for as long as she can remember, Sarita has explored many different forms of art and continues to be inspired by the possibility of discovering and experimenting with new ones. She learned to crochet at the age of eight from a Holocaust survivor who was her father's cousin. She was a restless child, and crochet became a source of calm-a feeling that continues to be an important part of her creative process today.
Through colorful, vibrant fiber artworks, Sarita transforms the
traditional craft of crochet into contemporary art. Inspired by nature, her pieces explore individuality and connection: each work is different, although all are created through the same process. Her art celebrates the idea that, like people, we can be constructed in similar ways while remaining beautifully unique.
